Planned Giving – Summer 2024 Magazine

Col. (Retired) Kenneth E. Smith (’76 BA, History) plans to continue his legacy at The University of Texas at Arlington with a gift of real estate to support the Cadet Corps Alumni Council Life Membership Endowment.

The existing endowment benefits the Department of Military Science in the College of Liberal Arts by funding scholarship awards and financial aid to students in the Military Science department, community events and cadet recruiting.

UTA’s Military Science program offered Ken opportunities to drive his military career and memories that remain with him today. Among those meaningful experiences were performing more than 40 times with the Sam Houston Rifles precision drill team over four years, including a performance for the governor of Texas in 1973.

“Giving back is a way to repay what ROTC/Military Science did for me when I was at UTA and pay it forward to assist other cadets in their goal of graduation and commissioning as a United States Army officer,” Ken said.

When supporting UTA in the form of a donation of appreciated real estate, such as property, land or ranches, donors can leave a lasting legacy at the University while receiving a charitable income tax deduction and avoiding capital gains tax on a real estate sale. For more information on gifts of real estate and other planned giving options, visit uta.giftlegacy.com or email [email protected].
